Manitoba Hydro, a vertically integrated utility and natural gas distributor, is in the process of implementing Meridium’s Generation Management, Asset Performance Management and custom software to meet some of the major challenges posed by a regulatory shift from MISO (Midcontinent Independent System Operator) toward allocating market shares based on performance. An error or loss of one MW could translate into a potential sales loss of over $100,000 per year. Current emphasis is on obtaining accurate and timely operational data by optimizing workflows and interconnections to existing data sources. Full implementation of the project is expected to lead to a reduction in software packages and paper processes. Meridium is interconnected with databases, such as SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition), COLA (Consolidated Outage & Operational Data and Logging Application), outage costing, and others, to share information required for the reporting, analysis, and understanding of the reliability, maintainability, and availability of the generating unit and the major equipment.
