RCM and FMEA

Implementing strategies to prevent equipment failures is a key component of any asset performance management solution. Failure prevention can be successful, however, only if the implemented strategies address the underlying cause of equipment failures. To implement effective strategies, it is necessary first to understand how equipment is likely to fail. After failure modes are well understood, their effects can be assessed, and recommendations can be made for ways to prevent potential failures and avoid the consequences.

Meridium's Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) and Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) module enables companies to conduct rigorous analysis of individual assets and entire systems for the purpose of identifying the causes of potential failures and then implementing strategies to prevent failures from occurring. RCM and FMEA analysis serves as a powerful mechanism for developing an in-depth understanding of equipment functions and failures. With that understanding, it is possible to develop successful failure-prevention strategies.

Meridium's RCM and FMEA module offers common tools to help facilitate the analysis process, simplify the implementation of recommendations, and enable continuous monitoring of their effectiveness.

  • Full access to RCM/FMEA analyses and information, including equipment, team members, functions, failures, failure modes, effects, and recommendations.
  • System/Equipment Linking
  • Analysis Team Management
  • Analysis Templates
  • Risk Matrix
  • Decision Tree
  • Recommendation Review and Approval
  • Recommendation Consolidation
  • Automated Evaluations
  • Reports

Meridium's RCM and FMEA module provides a set of tools that facilitate:

  • Collaboration of knowledge about a system and its functions among an analysis team.
  • Documentation of detailed information regarding the potential failures and their consequences.
  • Approval and implementation actions recommended for avoiding potential failures.
  • Reporting of analysis results to other users and groups in the organization.
  • Prevention of failures and the associated consequences as well as re-evaluation of the prevention strategies.

A key component of any APM solution is determining what strategies should be implemented to prevent failures and to reduce the costs and consequences associated with them. A comprehensive understanding of equipment functions and failures is essential for developing strategies that will be effective in preventing those failures. Meridium RCM and FMEA allow analysis teams to gain the insight that is necessary for implementing successful failure-prevention tactics.
